Still quiet: no council action newer than Sept 29

Monday morning pull: the file hasn’t moved verified

This morning’s pull of the city’s legislation file shows no action newer than Sept 29 across all 53 matters. The twelve matters filed at the Sept 29 stated meeting (TMP-0834 through TMP-0845) all still read “Referred,” and the meeting’s minutes are still marked Draft on Legistar (checked via the Legistar API at 7 AM today). The rest of the fall stack is unchanged: P.S. 9 conveyance (TMP-0813) still Tabled, and the noise-code amendment (TMP-0787, Chapter 66 § 66-5) still “Agenda Ready — Items for Consideration — Council.” The council is next back Tuesday, Oct 13, 7 PM (a second stated meeting follows Oct 27).

Tomorrow is “World Cerebral Palsy Day” in a resolution still waiting verified

One date to watch from the Sept 29 file: the council filed a resolution declaring October 6, 2026 — tomorrow — “World Cerebral Palsy Day” in the City of Yonkers. Like the other eleven filings from that meeting, its status still reads “Referred” — sent to committee, not yet adopted. If it moves, it would do so at a future stated meeting (next: Oct 13).

Pledge 182: every school day, on time

The attendance campaign asking Yonkers middle schoolers to show up every day verified

Mayor Mike Spano and Yonkers Public Schools launched Pledge 182 at an assembly at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy, asking middle school students in grades 7 and 8 to sign a pledge “to attend school every day and on time.” “Education is the cornerstone of our future, and each missed school day means a missed moment to learn and grow,” the mayor said. At the school, Principal Jonathan Morano plans monthly attendance awards, social-media shoutouts, class-versus-class challenges and an “Attendance Wall of Fame.” Superintendent Dr. Aníbal Soler, Jr.: “Every school day matters, and strong attendance builds the foundation for our children’s success.” The district’s target is chronic absenteeism — missing 10% or more of the school year for any reason — and the campaign aims to re-engage families through targeted outreach, encouragement and recognition. Spano also promised to return in June with a pizza party for students with perfect attendance in the 2026–2027 year.

Fire Prevention Week, day two: the tower lit red, the tour continues verified

Fire Prevention Week (Oct 4–10) opened yesterday with the City Hall Clock Tower lighting up red and white. The department’s month of school visits continues today at Khalil Gibran School, 18 Rosedale Road (the second of its two dates) and Annunciation School, 465 Westchester Avenue, then Sirgusa School, 60 Crescent Place (Oct 6), Westchester Hills School 29, 47 Croydon Road (Oct 7), Montessori School 27, 132 Valentine Lane (Oct 13) and Casimir Pulaski School, 150 Kings Cross (Oct 22). The theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The number behind it, from the city’s announcement: YFD responded to 10 fires sparked by batteries in 2025, and so far this year that count has been cut in half. Old lithium-ion batteries can be dropped at the Yonkers Recycling Center, 735 Saw Mill River Road.
