Issue #022 · Saturday, October 3, 2026 · 4 min read · By Alex Tiratsuyan

The quiet before Oct 13.

Saturday, and the clerk’s desk hasn’t moved since Sept 29: every matter from that night still reads “Referred,” and the newest action date in the whole file is still that Tuesday. The council’s next stated meeting is Tuesday, Oct 13 — and before that, property tax is due Tuesday, Oct 6, with the last mobile tax office open Monday at Coyne Park. Downtown today: the MWBE seminar at Riverfront this morning and a Ladies of the 80s tribute concert at 3. Tomorrow night, the City Hall Clock Tower lights red and white for Fire Prevention Week.

Nothing new filed — the council comes back Oct 13

The clerk’s desk, this morning: still parked on Sept 29 verified

This morning’s pull of the city’s legislation file shows no action anywhere newer than Sept 29 — that’s the newest action date in all 53 matters on the list. Every one of the twelve matters filed at the Sept 29 stated meeting (TMP-0834 through TMP-0845) still reads “Referred” — from the South Broadway/Caryl Avenue encroachment ordinance to the inter-municipal agreement with the Yonkers IDA to the resolutions naming October as Fire Prevention, Breast Cancer Awareness, Italian American Heritage, Polish American Heritage, Disability Employment Awareness and LGBTQ+ History Month. The meeting’s minutes are still in Draft on Legistar as of this morning. The fall’s big stack is likewise unchanged: the P.S. 9 conveyance (TMP-0813) still reads “Tabled” and the noise-code amendment (TMP-0787, Chapter 66 § 66-5) still reads “Agenda Ready — Items for Consideration — Council.” Both Sept 29 sessions — the stated meeting and the Mary Teague Way public hearing — are up in the city’s video archive (checked yesterday).

The October runway: council back the 13th, boards convene all month verified

The city calendar lays out the rest of the month. City Hall is closed Monday, Oct 12 for Columbus Day. The City Council stated meeting returns Tuesday, Oct 13, 7:00 PM, City Council Chambers, 4th Floor, City Hall, 40 South Broadway — with a second stated meeting Tuesday, Oct 27. Around it: the Board of Contract & Supply meets Monday, Oct 6 and again Oct 20 (both 3 PM); the Landmarks Preservation Board meets Tuesday, Oct 7 at 7 PM; the Parks Board meets Oct 13 at 7 PM; and the Planning Board meets Wednesday, Oct 14, 5:30 PM. The only board agenda posted for October so far remains the Zoning Board’s draft for Oct 22 — sixteen hearings at Saunders, headlined by the 258-foot tower ask on Yonkers Avenue that we broke down Friday.

Fire Prevention Week begins tomorrow night

Clock Tower goes red and white Sunday; YFD brings the charging lesson to Khalil Gibran Monday verified

Fire Prevention Week runs Oct 4–10 — the week named in the council’s Sept 29 resolution (still marked Referred), and the campaign the mayor and fire department launched Thursday continues. Tomorrow, the City Hall Clock Tower commemorates the week by lighting up red and white. Monday, the department’s school tour reaches Khalil Gibran School, 18 Rosedale Road (it stopped there yesterday too). The through-line is this year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The number behind it: in 2025, YFD responded to 10 fires sparked by batteries — and to date, that number has been cut in half. Fire Commissioner William Fitzpatrick: education is “one of our most important tools.” The practical list: charge on hard surfaces, use the cord that came with the device, unplug when full, retire hot or swelling batteries — and charge e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside, away from exits. Lithium-ion batteries can be dropped at the Yonkers Recycling Center, 735 Saw Mill River Road.
