The Sept 29 tapes are up.

Both of Tuesday night’s council sessions — the stated meeting and the Mary Teague Way public hearing — are now live in the city’s video archive. And the first October agenda landed: the Zoning Board’s Oct 22 draft, sixteen hearings deep, headlined by a 258-foot tower ask on Yonkers Avenue. Plus Fire Prevention Month begins today, with the fire department bringing its battery-safety campaign to Khalil Gibran School this afternoon.

First October agenda is in — and the Sept 29 videos are live

Zoning Board posts Oct 22 draft: 16 hearings, big one on Yonkers Ave verified

The Zoning Board of Appeals draft agenda for Thursday, Oct 22, 6:00 PM is up on the city’s AgendaCenter — the only October agenda any city board has posted as of this morning’s check. The session runs at the Saunders Trades and Technical High School auditorium, 183 Palmer Road. Sixteen hearings in all: nine open or continued, seven new. The headliner is Case #5934, 1221 Yonkers Avenue — a proposed new apartment building asking to build to 258.0 feet where the code allows 112.5 (the formula: one and a half times Yonkers Avenue’s 75-foot width), with a floor-area ratio of 11.9 against an allowed 3 and building coverage of 88.8% against an allowed 40%. Other new filings: a 56-unit building at 68–72 Buena Vista Ave (50 parking spaces where 56 are required; 80′-4″ height where 66′ is allowed). Open or continued cases include the Hudson Pointe condo at 1205 Warburton Ave, a 201,760-square-foot storage-facility shell building at 79 Austin Ave, and a 60-unit building at 69 Spruce St. Remember: it’s a draft — cases can be adjourned before the 22nd.

Sept 29 videos: both sessions now published verified

The city’s Chameleon “Meetings On Demand” archive now lists both Sept 29 sessions as published, with player pages live — one for the stated council meeting, one for the public hearing on renaming Hawthorne Avenue as “Mary Teague Way”. That closes the gap we flagged Thursday, when the entries had just appeared without video. The paper record still lags: Legistar shows the meeting’s minutes in Draft with no actions recorded, and all twelve matters filed that night (TMP-0834 through TMP-0845) still read “Referred” in this morning’s legislation pull — including the South Broadway/Caryl Avenue encroachment ordinance and the resolution declaring October Fire Prevention Month. The rest of the file is steady too: the P.S. 9 conveyance still reads “Tabled,” the noise-code amendment (Chapter 66, § 66-5) still reads “Agenda Ready — Items for Consideration — Council,” and the newest action date anywhere in the file remains Sept 29 — a quiet week at the clerk’s desk.

Fire Prevention Month starts with a charging lesson

10 battery fires last year, “cut in half” since — YFD’s October campaign verified

Posted by the city Thursday afternoon: Mayor Spano and the fire department are teaming with the National Fire Protection Association for Fire Prevention Month, under this year’s theme “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The number behind it: in 2025, YFD responded to 10 fires sparked by batteries — “to date, that number has been cut in half.” The advice is plain: charge on hard surfaces, never on beds or under pillows; use the cord that came with the device; unplug when full; and charge e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside and away from exits. Damaged batteries — hot, swelling, smoking, strange smell — get retired, and lithium-ion batteries can be dropped at the Yonkers Recycling Center, 735 Saw Mill River Road. The campaign hits schools starting today: smoke-trailer demos and curbside seminars at Khalil Gibran School (Oct 2 & 5), Annunciation (Oct 5), Sirgusa (Oct 6), Westchester Hills 29 (Oct 7), Montessori 27 (Oct 13) and Pulaski (Oct 22), plus station house tours. And the City Hall Clock Tower lights red and white on Sunday, Oct 4 to mark Fire Prevention Week. The council chipped in its own nod Tuesday night, filing the resolution that declares October Fire Prevention Month (still marked Referred).
