Issue #018 · Sunday, September 27, 2026 · 4 min read · By Alex Tiratsuyan

Sunday’s quiet. Tuesday isn’t.

No new council filings since Saturday’s check — we checked this morning. So today is a look at the week ahead: both of Tuesday’s council sessions land at Saunders’ auditorium, the Sept 15 money is still parked, Crestwood Library’s centennial concert is this afternoon, and free clean-energy job training opens Wednesday.

The week ahead: one big night at Saunders

Tuesday’s double-header, re-verified verified

Both of Tuesday’s council sessions stay at the Saunders Trades and Technical High School auditorium, 183 Palmer Rd — we re-pulled the Legistar meeting page and the school district’s own Saunders page this morning, and both still list it. First up: the 6:30 PM public hearing on the Mary Teague Way honorary renaming of Hawthorne Avenue from Hudson Street to Main Street. Then the 7 PM stated meeting, with its Final agenda of 13 action items — the encroachment ordinance for South Broadway and Caryl Avenue, the Mary Teague Way resolution, an agreement with the Yonkers IDA, and ten proclamation resolutions.

Sunday check: Sept 15’s money is still parked verified

No new legislation and no status changes landed between Friday’s pull and this morning’s — the record is flat. The five headline items from Sept 15 all still read “Referred,” with no recorded vote, as of today: the $3,321,809.25 petroleum-spill settlement (a spill from about June 6, 1989), the $4,050,000 Westchester Housing Implementation Fund grant for 636 South Broadway, the self-storage moratorium, the former P.S. 9 conveyance, and the 566 Saw Mill River Road sale. None are on Tuesday’s agenda. Whether any of the 38-item Sept 15 docket moves next is what we’re watching.

A centennial, and a free career door

Crestwood Library turns 100 — the concert is this afternoon verified

The branch itself is closed for renovations, but Crestwood Library’s centennial kicks off today at 3 PM with a gala concert at Asbury Crestwood United Methodist Church, 167 Scarsdale Rd — doors open 2:15 for the auction, 2:30 for concert seating. The afternoon features music, poetry and reflections with artists from Crestwood, Tuckahoe and greater Yonkers, co-presented with Asbury’s free community concert series, Music at Asbury. Registration is strongly encouraged via Eventbrite. The centennial year runs through October 16, 2027, with events planned throughout.

Free clean-energy career training: info session Wednesday verified

A free 5-week clean energy workforce training program holds its information session Wednesday, Sept 30, 2–3 PM, in the Yonkers Room (4th floor) of the Riverfront Library. Trainees pick a track — Heat Pumps or Home Insulation — and earn industry-recognized certifications, with job placement support after completing the program. No cost, but the session is the entry point, so show up or call the library ahead.
