The big four: five days in committee, still not law verified
Five days after Tuesday's session (eleven for the rezoning package, which was referred Sept 9), the city's Legistar record still shows all four headliners in “Referred” status as of this morning — the local law conveying the former Public School #9, the amended MHACY exemption agreement with its three-year PILOT abatement, the riverfront PUR permit amendment (the Riverside Drive / Admiral Way / Fisherman Way “Lots 1–13” stretch), and the rezoning package reclassifying certain properties to D-MX or UR-HD districts. In plain English: they're with committee, not law — nothing has passed. The next chances to move: a full Tuesday slate — Legislation & Codes at 6 PM in the Council Chambers, then the Rules Committee at 6:30 PM over at Saunders Trades & Technical High School's auditorium, 183 Palmer Road — and the next stated meeting Tuesday, Sept 29 at 7 PM back in the Chambers. All inside City Hall unless noted.
New in the file: a Saw Mill River Rd sale, a self-storage freeze, a noise amendment verified
Three items in the file we haven't covered yet — two referred with the Sept 15 stack, the noise amendment carried over from Sept 9 — all referred, all awaiting a vote. First, Councilmember Hodges' local law authorizing the sale of 566 Saw Mill River Road, with its companion environmental determination (SEQRA); the title notes a positive fiscal impact for the sale. Second, a temporary moratorium on self-storage facilities citywide, sponsored by all councilmembers. Third, a general ordinance amending the city's noise code (Chapter 66, § 66-5), carried over from Sept 9. None is law until the full council says so.
“Mary Teague Way”: Hawthorne Avenue strip to be renamed verified
A ceremonial item with real history: the council is considering honoring the life and legacy of Mary Teague by renaming Hawthorne Avenue from Hudson Street to Main Street as “Mary Teague Way.” It's an honorary renaming, referred Sept 15, alongside a resolution declaring Sept 15–Oct 15 Hispanic Heritage Month in Yonkers.
