Issue #012 · Tuesday, September 15, 2026 · 4 min read · By Alex Tiratsuyan

City Hall's big night is tonight.

The council's fall headline stack — the P.S. 9 conveyance, a housing PILOT, the riverfront permit and the rezoning package — goes to committee at 6:15 and the stated meeting at 7. Plus: the Zoning Board's warehouse docket is tomorrow, and three flag raisings wave this month. All verified, all linked.

Tonight at City Hall, and the week around it

Council night: the fall's biggest agenda, in one room verified

Tonight is the full stack: the Real Estate Committee at 6:15 PM, then the City Council stated meeting at 7 PM — both in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 40 South Broadway. The committee's posted final agenda carries the four headliners we've been following: the local law to convey the former Public School #9 for redevelopment, the amended exemption agreement with the Municipal Housing Authority authorizing a three-year PILOT abatement, the permit amendment covering 13 riverfront addresses (Riverside Drive, Admiral Way, Fisherman Way — the "Lots 1–13" stretch), and the citywide rezoning package that would reclassify properties to D-MX or UR-HD districts. Every one of the four sat in "Referred" status as of our check this morning — tonight's meetings are where they move. Can't make it? The next stated meeting is Tuesday, Sept 29.

Tomorrow: the Zoning Board and the big warehouse verified

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets Wednesday, Sept 16, at 6 PM in City Hall, 4th floor, and the freshly posted agenda is the one we covered Monday — including the 201,760-square-foot storage facility proposed at 79 Austin Ave (#5913), with apartment and two-family hearings across the docket. Two practical notes from the agenda itself: the City Hall elevator is out of order, and public comments can be emailed to zbapublic@yonkersny.gov any time before your hearing closes. The meeting is broadcast on City Hall TV if you'd rather watch from home.

$9.7 million for downtown ideas — one month left verified

The open call is live: Mayor Spano started accepting project proposals for the Hudson Gateway Connector Downtown Revitalization Initiative on Sept 10 — residents, businesses and organizations can pitch projects that reconnect downtown to the Hudson River waterfront, for a share of $9.7 million in DRI funding. Deadline: October 16, 4 PM. If you've got a practical, transformative idea for the waterfront side of downtown, the window is open but it's closing.

Workforce Pell is still the one to watch verified

New York's Workforce Pell expansion opens federal Pell money to short 8–15 week job-training programs — nursing, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, green energy. Schools are submitting programs for certification now; local seats follow. Priced out of a career switch? Keep this one on the fridge.
